2023. 09. 10

By 2025, the government and steelmakers will work together to spread the AI video inspection system for ferrous scrap to distributors," said Oh Chung-jong, director of the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy, at a meeting after the 33rd anniversary of the Korea Iron and Steel Resources Association held at the Marriott Daegu Hotel on September 8, 2023. "By spreading AI video inspection, we will reduce conflicts over inspection between suppliers and steelmakers and secure mutual trust."
"China and Japan are already actively developing and introducing AI inspection systems," said Igo Eun, a researcher at the Korea Institute of Industrial Economics and Trade, in a presentation on "How to Strengthen the Competitiveness of the Ferrous Scrap Industry Ecosystem." He pointed out that China has already entered the stage of securing the competitiveness of system developers.
In South Korea, a government research project involving steelmakers is underway, and the development of iron scrap sorting data collection technology is underway in collaboration with software solution companies. Daehan Steel has completed development with LG CNS and has been testing and learning at its Sinpyeong plant, with plans for commercialization in the first half of 2024.
