AI to Grade 'Iron Scrap' Quality! LG CNS and Korea Steel Establish Joint Venture AIMOS, Launching Iron Scrap Classification Business in Earnest

DX company LG CNS and Korea Steel have joined forces to establish a joint venture called "AIMOS."
LG CNS and Korea Steel held a ceremony to celebrate the launch of the joint venture at Korea Steel's headquarters in Busan on April 30. The event was attended by Oh Chi-hoon, President of Korea Steel, Hyun Shin-kyun, CEO of LG CNS, and Kim Beom-seok, CEO of AIMOS.
AIMOS is officially launching its "AI Iron Scrap Grading Solution" business. The term "iron scrap" refers to scrap metal and iron debris. Demand for iron scrap is steadily increasing, as electric furnaces using iron scrap emit less carbon dioxide compared to coal-based furnaces.
To this end, Korea Steel has compiled extensive data, including △ images △ items △ iron content ratios △ grades of hundreds of thousands of steel scraps. LG CNS has developed an AI model that learns from this data to determine the grade of steel scraps. The two companies plan to further refine the AI iron scrap grading solution.
In the future, AIMOS plans to advance its AI Iron Scrap Grading Solution by cooperating with 'Spinature,' Korea's largest iron scrap distributor. Oh Chi-hoon, President of Korea Steel, stated, "We will promote a virtuous cycle of resource utilization through the active use of iron scrap and accelerate sustainable growth in line with ESG principles."
Hyun Shin-kyun, CEO of LG CNS, emphasized, "We will continue to develop the DX technology of AIMOS alongside Korea Steel to help the steel industry establish an eco-friendly production system."
